END OF A USEFUL LIFE

Mr. P. P. Kelley Died at His Home in Glenwood Tuesday Evening.

Mr. P. P. Kelley died at his home in Glenwood a few minutes before midnight Tuesday night. He has been in an unconscions condition for ten days before and from the first it was very nearly certain he would never recover. The physicians are in some doubt as to the character of his malady, but the immediate cause of his death perhaps was the bursting of a gathering in his head. It was some form of brain trouble which was seemingly difficult to diagnose.
The deceased was born June 23, 1849 and in consequence was forty nine and one-half years old at the time of his death. He has been a resident of Mills county practically all of his life coming here in 1854. His family first settled on the old Kelley homestead in Anderson township where Mr. Kelley lived until he attained manhood. He took a law course at the State University of Iowa and after graduation settled in Glenwood in 1875 where he has ever since been a practicing attorney.
It is doubtful if there is any man in Glenwood who would be missed so much as P. P. Kelley. He has always been untiring in his work for every public enterprise and has been as devoted and as zealous in his work others as he was for himself. No individual or organization ever called upon him for aid that he did not respond and to the best of his ability. He gave unselfishly of his time and his money to everything that was worthy. While it cannot be said that he acumulated a fortune financially, it can be said of him, which is much more to his credit, that he gave his life ar at least the best part of it to his family and friends, his town and his country. We could say much more in praise of this unselfish and noble hearted man but it is unnecessary; he lives in his deeds and all who know him, know what he was and what he accomplished far better than we can tell it here.
The deceased was mayor of Glenwood for several years, and was a candidate for Judge of the district court on the Democratic ticket and has held several offices of honor and trust within the gift of the people. He was a member of the Glenwood Board of Education at the time of his death. He leaves a wife and three children to mourn his loss. The funeral services were held at one o'clock this (Thursday) afternoon at the Christian church.
