From the Opinion Tribune dated 12-31-1996:

Ferdinand L. Boyce, 84, of Glenwood died Sunday, December 22, 1996, at the Glen Haven Home in Glenwood. Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 27, 1996, at the Peterson Mortuary. Burial was at West Oak Cemetery with Rev. Ross Boyce officiating.

Mr. Boyce was born March 13, 1912, in Mills County to Edmund and Effie (Seburn) Boyce. He was the 10th of 11 children. He attended grade school at Gowen #1 and graduated from high school at the Old East High School in Glenwood in 1930. He married Vera Frances Keith on October 19, 1938, in Sidney.

Mr. Boyce farmed in the Pony Creek, Glenwood and Silver City areas until 1953, when the family moved to Glenwood. For many years he raised large gardens and sold the produce at the Old Market in Omaha. After moving into town he was employed by the Mills County Engineers office. He was bridge foreman when he retired in 1974, after 21 years.

As a young man Mr. Boyce attended the West Oak church with his family. After moving to Glenwood he became an active member of the Nazarene Church. He was a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent and served on the church board for many years. He had a great love for music and played several different musical instruments.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Vera on December 8, 1961; four brothers, Ernest, Elmer, Robert and Sammie; and four sisters, Sylvia, Ruby, Irene and Esther. Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn and her husband Art Prien, and Dorothy and her husband Fred Techau; two sons, Donald and his wife Sue, and Jon and his wife Doris; one sister, Goldie White; one brother, Charles Boyce; nine grandchildren; four great-grandsons and many other relatives and friends.
