WILL OF JOHN ASKWIG

Know all men by these presents that this is the last will and testament of John Askwig of Dakota County, State of Nebraska.

That I will and bequeath to my beloved wife Sarah Teresa Askwig lands lying in the State of Iowa, to-wit:
The West half of the North West quarter of Section Twenty Three in Twp. Seventy three North, of Range Forty three West, containing Eighty Acres and the East half and the South West quarter of the North East quarter of Section Twenty Two in Twp. Seventy three North of Range Forty three West, containing Forty Acres, to have and to hold in her own right and it is my wish that she support and maintain my Mother on said premises as long as she may choose to remain with her free of charge all the above named property to belong to her and to her heirs and assigns forever.

And further I give and bequeath to my said wife horses as follows to-wit: one known as “Dick” and one known as “Bolly” one Black mare colt coming three years old and one Black mare coming eight years old and one large Mule coming twelve years old and two set of double harness, and one single seated Buggy and one two horse wagon A. Shettler make, also the sum of Four hundred dollars in cash to be paid in six months after my death, said sum to be made out of the hogs and cash stock in the Mill together with all of my household furniture, also Four head of cattle to be of average value of balance from my herd. I further give and bequeath to my two Brothers James Askwig and Avon E. Askwig to be them held and managed to the best interest of my estate all of my real estate and personal property not included in above bequest to my said wife and that during the lifetime of my two sisters, Mrs. Inger Oak and Mrs. Sarah Gould, my said Brothers are hereby requested to furnish to my said sisters such sum of money or of property as they may deem to the best advantage of said sisters, said Brothers to be the Judges thereof. The above property after my just debts are all paid to belong to my two said Brothers their heirs and assigns forever.

It is further my will that if Mother chooses to live with either of my said Brothers they shall maintain her free of charge.

I further hereby constitute and appoint my two Brothers James and Avon E. Askwig my lawful and legal executors of this my said last will and testament. I further state it is my last will that my said wife shall give the necessary road for outlet through the property above willed to her to the main traveled road.

I, John Askwig being of sound mind do in the presence of these witnesses sign the above and foregoing instrument as my last will and testament this 13th day of January 1880. Done at Oaks Mill in Dakota County, Nebraska the day and year above written. Signed John Askwig

We the undersigned do say that the above and foregoing instrument was signed by the said John Askwig in our presence this 13th day of January 1880.
