Steve, My apologigies for taking so long in replying. We are talking about the same Philip McDaniel. He enlisted (age 34) in the Iowa Vols., 2nd Cav., Company B July 30, 1861 as a farrier. Mustered Aug 31, 1861, discharged for disability Aug 7, 1861 davenport Iowa. He reenlisted (age 35) Sept 1, 1862, Iowa Vols, 5th inf., Company D. Mustered same date. Wounded in leg "severely" May 16, 1863 Champion Hills, Miss. Died of wounds June 9, 1863 same place. He is buried at the National Cemetery in Vicksburg Miss. Section R, grave 91. Both enlistments state residence of Marshall County and nativity of Penn. From his 1860 cnsus return I see that he was in Ohio before Illinois. Can you tell me anything of him in either place? Thank you so much for your reponse. Karon
