Hi Doug, you posted this about 3 years ago:

Jim Otto Breckel is My Great

Grandfather. He Married Ethyl Cornelius, Daughter of John B and Rosalie

(Bennett) Cornelius in Marshalltown. I cannot find any information past

Jim on the Breckel branch of my family. Also anything on Bennett or

Cornelius would be helpful. I have John B's parents John P and Serilda.

Don't know her Maiden name. Also know Rosalie's father was Charles

Bennett who died Nov 11, 1930.

thanks

James Otto Breckel was my grandmothers uncle and a WW1 vet.. He was the son of James Breckel (1864 - 1906 Fergus, Marshall Co. Iowa) and Francis Koudelka (1865 - 1938, n. of Ferguson, Marshall Co., Iowa). The spelling of Breckel was an amercanized name change that took place after James had come to the US from Bohemia. The original name is spelled Brejcha. The name James was changed as well, but Im not sure what it originally was, likely Frantisek, a popular Czech name. Your gg-grandmother Francis came over from Bohemia with her parents Jan (John) Koudleka (1827-1907) and Anna (Sobotka) Koudleka in 1876 on the passenger ship SS Leipzig through the port of Baltimore when she was only 9 years old. I have a photo of Anna and Francis together taken in Marshalltown circa 1920 when my grandmother passed away in 2004. I also have a dinner plate from about 1870 that Francis & her parents brought over when they emmigrated to this county. My grandmother, Katherine Doris Khile, is the daughter of James Khile and Maymie "Mary" Rose Breckel. My great-granmother Mary Breckel (1896-1976 Marshalltown Iowa), and your James Otto Breckel were sister and brother to each other. There are other brothers and sisters, three of which I have a photo of - Jim, Ralph and Sophie. I found a photo of Jim Otto Breckel online from when he enilsted to go to war. The pictures of Ralph & Sophie were from my grandmother. My grandmother talked about her Uncle Jim that was in the war, and I think my dad James "Jim" Southard was named after him.

Hopefully this is still your email address. Let me know - I can to scan those photos and email them to you along with the other info I have,
