Harriett Fleming, 88, of Gladbrook, IA, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the Southridge Nursing and Rehab Center in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Chapel United Methodist Church, in rural Gladbrook. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at Chapel United Methodist Church.

Harriett was born June 26, 1925 in Dodge Center, MN to John and Mary (Finch) Wirth. She graduated from Garwin High School in 1942 and then attended AIB. Harriett was united in marriage to Richard Fleming on June 6, 1948 at the Garwin Christian Church. Harriett worked at Lennox in Marshalltown and then as a homemaker raising five children; she then was employed with Central Iowa Bean Mill in Gladbrook and Marshalltown keeping books. Harriett also worked at Producers Savings Bank in Green Mountain until her retirement. Harriett was a member of Chapel United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, serving on the District and Conference level. She was also an active member of the Ladies Cemetery Aid. She was very active on the county and state level Republican Party. Harriett enjoyed knitting and sewing; doing puzzles, crosswords and jumbles and playing scrabble were some other favorite past times. She also loved playing cards, especially Skip-BO.

Harriett will be missed by her five children: Carolyn(Vaugn) Kloster of Gladbrook, IA, Janet (David) Yungbluth of Rossie, IA, Thomas (Brenda) Fleming of Marshalltown, IA, Barbara (Fred) Yergler of Gibson City, IL and James (LeAnn) Fleming of Garwin, IA; 10 grandchildren: Christian (Elise) Kloster of Omaha, NB, Richard (Maegan) Kloster of Grimes, IA, Michael Kloster of Des Moines, IA, Kevin Yungbluth of Windsor Heights, IA, Adam Yungbluth of Wamsutter, WY, Joshua (Lauren) Yergler of Champaign, IL, Korissa Yergler of Gibson City, IL, Phillip Fleming of Garwin, IA, Shannon Fleming of Garwin, IA and Aaron Fleming of Marshalltown, IA; nine great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and sister: Helen Hala of Toledo, IA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, parents, John and Mary, two brothers, Walter and George Wirth and a sister, Ruth Ingraham.
