Laurel Pioneeer Resident Dies
Laurel, Jan. 15 – Special to The Daily News – E. G. H. Schnoor, one of the pioneer residents of Laurel died at the age of 71 years at the Deaconness hospital in Marshalltown about 10:00 o’clock last evening. Mr. Schnoor’s death came as the result of an illness of the past two weeks, caused by an infection.
Mr. Schnoor was born in Holstein, Germany, in 1860 and came to Laurel when he was a young man. For the past 45 years he has been engaged in the smithing and hardware business.
He was married to Lena Jacobs on Sept. 23, 1886 and is survived by his wife and four children, Henry and William of Humboldt, Mrs. Ralph Landon of LaMoille and Ernest of Laurel. One son preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at the Evangelical church of Laurel on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock.

Laurel, Jan. 20 – Special to The Daily News – Funeral services for E. G. H. Schnoor, a pioneer resident of Laurel, who died Wednesday evening at the Deaconess hospital at Marshalltown, were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Evangelical church at Laurel, with Rev. L. J. Smay of Merrill, a former pastor of the Evangelical church in charge, assisted by the local pastor, Rev. Thomas Koch. Burial was in the Graceland cemetery west of Laurel.
Music was furnished by the male quartet composed of William Shoemaker, W. P. Stewart, George Reifschneider and Merle C. Patton, with Miss Doris Anderson at the piano. The flowers were in charge of Mrs. John Locker, Mrs. E. E. Lawrence, Mrs. Donald Mann. Mrs. Delbert Dowden, Fern Sietmann and Alma Appel.
Pallbearers were L. R. Maytag, Henry Weissenburger, Peter Louks, Carl Buhrow, Charles Toedt and Herman Wessels.
Those attending from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schnoor and daughter, William Schnoor of Humbolt, Mr. and Mrs. Jake Adkins, Mrs. Herman Wiltz, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Weissenburger, Kayle and Rhae Hurte, Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Maytag of Marshalltown, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Wiltz of Waterloo and many friends from the Laurel and Newton neighborhoods.
