Killian Kunkel, of Haverhill, one of the prominent and old-time farmers of the county and an early settler in this city, died this forenoon at 9:30 o'clock at his home after an illness with asthma and heart trouble. Mr Kunkel lacked just two months of being 70 years of age.

He was born in Bavaria and came to this country in 1853 locating in Peru, Indiana, where he remained for three years. He came to Marshalltown in 1856 and remained here until 1861, when he removed to the vicinity of Haverhill.

Mr Kunkel leaves a wife and seven children- five sons and two daughters. The sons are Edward of Wesley; Martin of Haverhill; Chris of Bigelow, Minnesota; Joseph of Maine Prairie, Minnesota and Antone who lives at home. One of the daughters, Miss Lucy is at home and the other is known as Sister Killian, and is identified with St Francis Convent, Dubuque.

The funeral will be conducted from St Mary's church at Haverhill on Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock, Rev Father Joseph Schlueter officiating.
