Nahum D. Putnam Succumbs Five Days After the Death of His Wife
Was One of the Old Residents of the County --- Funeral Tuesday Morning
Grief over the demise of his wife caused the death at an early hour Sunday morning of Mr. Nahum D. Putnam, an old resident of Marshall county. Mrs. Putnam died on Tuesday morning of last week, and after her burial the aged husband became ill and expressed the desire that he also should die. He grew week rapidly and for some time refused nourishment, passing away at 12:25 Sunday morning at his residence, No. 406 First avenue. Mr. Putnam was born May 18, 1832, in Huron county, Ohio. When a child his parents moved to Hillsdale, Mich. In 1851 Mr. Putnam settled near LeGrand, Marshall county, where he was married to his late wife. A farm was then purchased ten miles south of the city near Laurel, where they resided until nine years ago, when they purchased and occupied a farm four miles south of the city. After a residence of three years there they moved to this city. Four children, two sons and two daughters, survive. One son, George, resides on the old homestead near Laurel, and the other son, Edgar, lives on a farm south of this city. The daughters are Mrs. Grace Ward, of this city, and Mrs. May Norton, of Laurel. The funeral will be conducted Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock from the residence. Dr. F. W. Parsons officiating, and interment will be in Timber Creek Cemetery, beside the remains of his wife.
