Walter L. Paxson, 95, formerly of Gilman, died Thursday, April 13, at Friendship Manor in Grinnell.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home in Marshalltown, with the Rev. Richard Gamble officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.
The son of Fred and Susie Dimmit Paxson, he was born June 12, 1899, in Montour. He was a 1919 graduate of Albion High School and attended Iowa State College for two years.
He was married to Susie Thomas Feb. 29, 1924. He was later married to Neva Gardner in Eldora in 1928 and Eda L. Probasco on March 1, 1959, in Princeton, Mo.
Mr. Paxson was a member of the Gilman Community Church and was named deacon emeritus in November 1987. He was also a member of the Gilman Senior Citizens and Laurel Senior Citizens and was a volunteer driver for the elderly and disabled.
Surviving are a son, James of Ocala, Fla.; one stepdaughter, Doloris Paxson of Marshalltown; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by is parents; his three wives; one son, William; a granddaughter and three brothers.
A memorial fund has been established.
