The Register's Iowa News ServiceMARSHALLTOWN, IA. - Melvon Hartwig, 64, of Marshalltown died of Lou Gehrig's disease Sunday at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
Mr. Hartwig was born in Marshalltown. He founded Mel Hartwig Plumbing and Heating in 1955, was a Navy veteran of World War II and had been a member of Frank Lewis Glick American Legion, Harry Harter Veterans of Foreign wars, Elks Lodge, Marshalltown Chamber of Commerce and several professional organizations.
Surviving are his wife, Connie; three daughters, Linda Denison of Palatine, Ill., Cherie Haye of Glenwood Springs, Colo., and Connie Dickson of North Oaks, Minn.; three brothers, Louis of San Diego and Howard and Clair, both of Marshalltown; and six grandchildren.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends until 9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Research Foundation. ~ The Des Moines Register, Des Moines, Iowa Tues 6 Aug 1991.
