Junior E. Garr, 55, of 127 N. 10th St. N., a resident of Newton since 1953, died Sunday afternoon, May 26, at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines of heart failure.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Robert Hinshaw, pastor of Ashton Chapel, north of Mingo, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Wednesday. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. wednesday at the funeral home.

Survivors are his wife, Norma; a son, Lloyd E. of Newton; a daughter, Sandra K. Garr of Newton; three grandchildren; a brother, Martin Garr of Promise City; two sisters, Alta (Mrs. George) Mitchell of Grinnell and Lilly Halterman of Newton; and a special friend, Bonnie Halterman of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Glenn and William, a sister, Virginia Wilcox.

Mr. Garr, a member of the Army from 1958 to 1960, was a member of the Retirees Union, Local 997.

He had been a foreman at Winpower Co. for 23 years, retiring in 1977 on medical leave.

The son of Alva Le Roy and Alma Large Garr, he was born Oct. 4, 1935 in Exline and attended Exline schools.

He was married to Norma Ibbotson Aug. 9, 1961 in Marshalltown. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Tues 28 May 1991.
