THOMAS WELSCH

Thomas Welsch, 71, of Glenview (IL), went home to be with the Lord, January 29, 1925, after a 16-month battle with esophageal cancer. Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years and best friend Joye; son Dr. Christopher (Elise) Welsch of Jackson, Tennessee; daughter Jennifer (Rev. Greg) Laible of Lehighton, PA; and grandchildren Joshua, Jessica, Sarah, Anna, and Ethan. He was also the son-in-law to Rosezella Wood of Marshalltown, IA; brother-in-law to Judy Hill of Marshalltown, IA; uncle to Jeff Hill, Joe Lassa, Pete Lassa, Paul (Palmyra) Lassa, Jim (Debbie) Lassa, Pam (Pierre) Dauby, Jerry Lassa, Jonathan (Beth) Lassa, Phil Lassa, and Patricia Lassa.

Tom was born March 21, 1943 to John and Marie Welsch in Evanston, Illinois. He was active at St. Jerome's, in the local teen club, and playing softball growing up. He graduated from DePaul Academy. After receiving a Bachelor's degree in accounting from DePaul University and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Iowa, he married Joye and went to work for the City College of Chicago. He taught accounting and business administration at the collegiate level for 35 years, in addition to maintaining a private accounting practice.

Tom enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, reading, playing tennis, and listening to Chicago sports, the Cubs, Bulls, and Bears. He was an avid fan of all things associated with Northwestern University, with the color purple easily to be found amongst most of his possessions. He loved being with his grandchildren, and cherished time spent with them on trips or at "Grammy and Papa Camp." Most important to him was his personal relationship with Jesus Christ that was seen every day in his actions, attitudes, and conversations. He will be remembered for his gentle kindness, engaging sense of humor, hearty laugh, and deep faith.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Sunday, March 1, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. at Winnetka Bible Church, 555 Birch Street (at Elm Street), Winnetka. A reception will immediately follow the service in Fellowship Hall. There will also be a Concert of Praise at 5 p.m. in the sanctuary by Huntley Brown, pianist for the Billy Graham Evangelical Association.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the "Team Tom Memorial Fund." Please mail checks to: The Community Foundation of Central Illinois; 331 Fulton Street, Suite 310; Peoria, Illinois 61602. All donations are tax deductible, and will be used to multiply the Gospel around the world.
