GEORGE HILL

George Hill, 73, of Marshalltown, died Tuesday, July 26, at the Iowa River Hospice House in Marshalltown with his loving family at his side. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 29, at the First United Methodist Church. He will be laid to rest with full military honors by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Harry C. Harter Post #839. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Thursday night at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the family. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for George and his family. 641-844-1234. Born on July 9, 1938, in Marshalltown, he was the son of George Owen and Alice (Peterson) Hill. He graduated from Gilman High School's Class of 1957 and later attended the Marshalltown Junior College. George served our country honorably in the United States Army Reserves for six years. On October 7th, 1961, he was united in marriage to Judy Wood at the Baptist Church in Grinnell. They made their home in Gilman for four years until moving to Marshalltown. George was employed at Holland Plastics in Gilman and then Fisher Controls in Marshalltown until retiring in 2001. George was a member of the Central Iowa Gun Club, NRA, Promise Keepers and former member of the Lions Club. He currently was attending the First United Methodist Church and treasured his membership time with Christian motorcyclists-"Riding for the Son." He enjoyed his trips to Branson, listening to music, going out to eat, attending the Iowa State Fair and watching old westerns. Left to cherish his memory is Judy, his loving wife of 49 years, his son Jeff, mother-in-law Rosezella Wood of Marshalltown, sister-in-law Joye (Thomas) Welsch of Glenview, IL, his aunt Jean Hill of Gilman, and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, father-in-law Everett Wood and brother-in-law Dr. Dennis Wood.
