PIERCE

Mrs. Ellen Pierce, aged 44, wife of Willard S. Pierce, died at her home, two miles west of LeGrand, at 3:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon of hardening of the arteries. Mrs. Pierce had been sick for five months. During the last three months of that time her condition had been serious. Mrs. Pierce's maiden name was Ellen Matilda Russie. She was born in Tama county, March 11, 1865. She became the wife of Mr. Pierce twenty-two years ago, the wedding taking place in the home where she died. Mrs. Pierce is survived by her daughters, Mrs. Louis Mercka, of Quarry, and Miss Reba Pierce, who lives at home. She also leaves one stepson, George Pierce, formerly steward at the local Country Club, who now makes his home with his father. The funeral was held from the residence Tuesday afternoon at 1 o'clock, Rev. George Deshler, assisted by Rev. J. W. Piper, both of LeGrand, officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill cemetery in LeGrand.
