SKIFF

Mrs. Roxie Ann Skiff, one of the very earliest settlers of Marshalltown, died early this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. Boyd, 1508 Summit street. She had been ill three weeks, her death resulting from the infirmities of old age. Mrs. Skiff was 75 years of age, having been born in Rochester, N.Y., April 30, 1831. With her husband, she came to this city more than fifty years ago, when there were but three houses in the settlement. With the exception of nineteen years she had resided here since that time, the home for a number of years having been at Chester Center. Her husband died March 14, 1888. A son, J. H. Skiff, resides in this city and another son, Clarence Skiff, lives at Great Forks, Mont. Two sisters also reside in this city, Mrs. Elizabeth Smith and Miss Mary Hopkins. Mrs. Skiff was a member of the Congregational church, having united with that church at Chester Center many years ago. The funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the residence of Mrs. Boyd. Rev. L. B. Hix, of the Congregational church, will officiate. The pall bearers, from among neighbors and friends, will be H. A. Christianson, W. G. Kane, Enos Trautman, D. D. Babcock, Ed Church and James Haines.
