MRS. H. J. NICHOLS DEAD

Well Known Resident Dies After Illness of Over Two Years

Mrs. H. J. Nichols, a well known resident of Marshalltown, died at her home, 503 South First street. Death followed an illness of more than one year with cancer of the bowels. Mrs. Nichols underwent and operation at St. Thomas hospital two years ago and has been in poor health since that time. Julia A. Neal, daughter of Thomas and Mary Neal, was born in Ohio, June 9, 1844. She came with her parents to Illinois when a child and resided in that state until her marriage to Hatley J. Nichols, at Mendota, July 18, 1868. Soon after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Nichols came to Ames, where they resided for ten years. Mrs. Nichols is survived by her husband and two children. The latter are Mrs. Minnie Ballou and Mrs. Maude Bingaman, both of this city. A foster son, Wyllis N. Nichols, lives at Southwick, S.D. Two sons died in infancy. Mrs. Nichols was a member of the Baptist church, but was not of late actively identified with church work. The funeral will be held from the residence Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, Rev. James McGee conducting the services.
