DEATH OF PIONEER

Mrs. Ann Brock, Resident of City Since 1859, Dies in Tama

Mrs. Ann Brock, one of the pioneer residents of Marshalltown, died at 5 o'clock Sunday evening at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. A. E. Jackson, in Tama, where she had been visiting the past five weeks. Mrs. Brock had been confined to her bed but one week and her death was the result of a general breakdown, she being in her 87th year. Ann Shaw was born in Yorkshire, England, June 12, 1822, where she was married to Ratcliffe Bradbury and came to America in 1855. The couple settled in this city in 1859, where Mr. Bradbury died in September, 1862. Mrs. Bradbury was again married in April, 1865, to A. H. Brock, who died in February, 1889. Mrs. Brock was the mother of two children, James R. Bradbury, of this city, and Elizabeth E. Bradbury, who married Webster Bowen and died in 1879. Claud H. Brock, bookkeeper at the soldier's home, is a stepson. Five grandchildren also survive. They are Mrs. A. E. Jackson , of Tama, Ralph Bowen, Cripple Creek, Colo.; Palmer L. Bowen, Paris, France; Roy R. Bradbury, of Marshalltown, and Mrs. O. C. Dentzer, Oak Park, Ill. Mrs. Brock had lived the past few years with the family of her son, J. R. Bradbury, from whose home the funeral will be held at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. William Pence James, assisted by Rev. L. B. Hix. The body will reach the city from Tama this evening and be taken to the Bradbury home, 101 South Ninth street.
