E. B. CLINTON DIES; FORMER CITY COUNCILMAN

Edward B. Clinton, 88, 211 N. 3rd Ave, died at the Mercy Hospital Saturday afternoon. He had been a patient for the last two weeks. Born Dec. 20, 1868, at Loda, Ill., he was the son of Joseph and Martha Clinton. In 1877, the family moved to Russell where he received his education and grew to manhood. Later he was graduated from the Capital City Commercial College. Mr. Clinton was associated with his father in newspaper work until 1897. He was then employed at the State Hospital at Independence where he installed the Clinical Records of the hospital which are still in use. AFTER COMING to Marshalltown in 1903, he was connected with the Iowa Central Railroad for four years, then was office manager for the Marshalltown Trowel Co. for 25 years, retiring in 1932. He served on the city council for eight years and in 1933 he was appointed secretary of the Central Iowa Fair, retiring in 1938. On Sept. 25, 1901, he was married to Lola F. Edwards at Independence where they resided until coming to Marshalltown. Preceding him in death were his wife in 1955, two daughters, two brothers and a sister. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. S. B. Edwards of Marshalltown. HE WAS A 50-year member of Banner Lodge No. 123 IOOF, Crocker Encampment No 31, Captain of Cantons (R. Howe Taylor) of Marshalltown. He was past grand patriarch of Grand Encampment of Iowa, Marshall Rebekah Lodge No. 40, a member of Marshall Lodge No. 108 AF&AM, past worthy patron of Central Chapter No. 67 OES, member of BPOE No. 312, and also a member of the First Congregational Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday from First Congregational Church with the Rev. Max Strang, pastor, in charge and burial will be in Riverside Cemetery with Marshall Lodge No. 108 AF&AM in charge. Friends may call at Estel-Perrins until 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
