Karen Kay Hockridge-Hein-Clark, 71,

BANDERA, Texas—Karen Kay Hockridge-Hein-Clark, 71, surrounded by family and friends, passed on to her Lord on Aug. 28, 2013. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Saint Christopher’s Episcopal Church rain catchment system in Bandera. Karen was born in Marshalltown, Iowa, on Dec. 26, 1941, to Albert and Carolyne Hockridge. Karen attended elementary school in Marshalltown, Iowa, and graduated from high school at Oak Park Academy in Nevada, Iowa, in May of 1960. Karen’s first marriage was to Robert Glen Hein of Muscatine, Iowa. In 1974, Karen received her RN degree in nursing from Saint Lukes School of Nursing in Davenport, Iowa. Her first nursing job was with Head Start in Muscatine, Iowa. She loved children and this job was very rewarding for her. During her career she worked in many areas of the health care system around the country, including Phoenix, Ariz., and Monterey, Calif. Karen married Kenneth Clark on Dec. 30, 2006, at Saint Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Bandera, Texas. The wedding was the first in the area to be co-officiated by both the Episcopal and Methodist Church. Karen was also active in the community, doing volunteer work at the Silver Sage Senior Center, she was also a member of the Blushing Beauties Red Hat Society of Bandera, Texas and spoke many times of the fun they had as a group. Karen was also active in the Saint Christopher’s Episcopal Church of Bandera, Texas. She was head of the Altar Guild, member of the choir, former president of the (ECW), member of the Daughters of the King, and also involved in a (EFM) four year course. Karen loved to travel after her retirement from nursing and spent time with Ken traveling the United States, Canada and Mexico, she especially loved to visit the country’s national parks. She also loved to travel and spend time with her family and grand kids. Karen was known by all that came in contact with her for her great sense of humor which she displayed on a regular basis. She made sure she passed this to future generations and that tradition is being carried on. Karen is survived by her husband Kenneth Clark of Bandera, Texas; son, Anthony Hein and Diane Garrow of Muscatine, Iowa; daughter, Wendy Hein and Chad Stalkfleet of Letts, Iowa; grandson, Jordan Rubio of Muscatine, Iowa; granddaughter, Diana Rubio of Muscatine, Iowa; and great-granddaughter, Marly Jayne Vinson of Muscatine, Iowa; brother, Ronald Hockridge and wife Bj Hockridge of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; niece, Kym Lavitschke and husband Brian Lavitschke of West Fargo, N.D.; niece, Michelle DesJardin of Plymouth, Minn. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Hockridge, Carolyne Hockridge, and her daughter-in-law, Nami King-Hein.
