RAPID CITY - Donald Paul Ausdal, 70, died, Saturday, April 7, 2007 at his home. Don was born in Marshalltown, Iowa, on July 18, 1936, the son of Albert and Lulu Ausdal. He joined the United States Air Force after graduating from high school in Marshalltown, Iowa, in 1954. The military took him around the world where he met his loving wife of almost 48 years in Wiesbaden, Germany. Don served in the Vietnam War in 1967-1968 as a door gunner for the 20th SOS Green Hornets. He retired from Ellsworth Air Force Base after 22 years and settled his family in Rapid City in 1976. Don loved to golf and fish and also loved spending time on various projects in the garage, but mostly spending time with his seven grandchildren. Don leaves behind the most special person in his life, Hannelore Ausdal, and his three children, Mike Ausdal, Donna Foss and Teri Ausdal-Ramsdell, all of Rapid City. His sister Nancy Wilson of Marshalltown, Iowa. His seven grandchildren, which he admired so deeply, Mikey, Tawni, Lauren, Kylie, Aaron, Chaz and Joey. Also, nieces and nephews. They will all deeply miss him. A memorial has been set up for the grandchildren's college fund. Condolences may be sent to, 3315 Idlewild Court, R.C. 57702. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, April 12, at Osheim-Catron Funeral Home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Black Hills National Cemetery with military honors provided by Ellsworth Air Force Base Honor Guard. The funeral procession will depart from Osheim-Catron funeral Home at 10:15 a.m., Friday, April 13.
