EDWARD SHIMEK, 76

Services for Edward Shimek, 76, of 219 E. Anson St., who died Thursday at his home of an apparent heart attack, have been set for Monday at 1:30 p.m. from the Pursel-Davis Funeral Home, the Rev. Edward Sullivan will officiate and burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery.  Flag presentation will be by the American Legion.  Born July 19, 1914, in Marshalltown, he was the son of James V. and Anna Cherney Shimek.  He was reared and educated in Marshalltown and served in World War II with the Army in Luzon and the Philippines.  He was an employee of the Marshalltown school system as a custodian for many years, retiring in 1977.  Mr. Shimek was a member of Frank Lewis Glick Post 46 American Legion.  He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.  Surviving is a nephew, Jimmie Shimek of Marion.
