IN HOSPITAL FOR YEARS, CIVIL WAR WIDOW DIES AT 98

Mrs. Jennie Franks, 98, who lived at the Iowa Soldiers home for the past 26 years, died at the home hospital Thursday evening at 9:43. She had been in the hospital for 20 years. Death was due to age debility. Mrs. Franks was born June 12, 1844, the daughter of Benjamin and Mary Crocker in Canandaigua, N.Y. She was married to Charles H. Franks July 23, 1879, at Hopkinton. Mr. Franks saw service in the civil war as a member of Company G, Sixth Iowa calvary. They lived at Madrid, Iowa, after the war until coming to the home April 8, 1916. Mr. Franks died Jan. 1, 1918. Mrs. Franks married Charles Bennett Sept. 8, 1921, here and he died Nov. 11, 1930. She then resumed her former name. She had no children. Mrs. W. F. Fortney of Waverly, a step granddaughter will be here for the services which will be held Monday morning at 10 o’clock at the home chapel in charge of the chaplain, Rev. C. H. VanMetre. Burial will be in the Home cemetery. The body will remain at the Pursel funeral home until the time of the services.
