WALTER FISHER, 73, LONG-TIME RESIDENT IN COUNTY, IS DEAD

Walter Fisher, 73, 609 East Main street, died at 11:30 p.m. Thursday at the Evangelical Deaconess hospital where he had been a patient for the last week. He had been in failing health for several years. William Walter Fisher was born Feb. 3, 1875 at Greensberg, Ind., the son of Newton J. and Mary Jane Clemons Fisher. When he was 15 years old, the family moved to Marshall county and settled on a farm six miles northeast of the city. On Feb. 4, 1897 he was married to Della Brown at Marshalltown and the couple lived two years with Mr. Fisher’s grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Clemons, Marshall county pioneers. After living in Vienna township a number of years they moved to Marietta 12 years ago where they lived until February, 1947 at which time they moved to Marshalltown. Mr. Fisher was a member of Banner Lodge I.O.O.F. and Crocker Encampment No. 31. Surviving besides the widow are one son, Donald Fisher who lives in Vienna township and one brother, John J. Fisher of Boise, Idaho. Two grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive. Funeral services will be at the Estel funeral home at 2 p.m. Monday in charge of Dr. Pieter Smit. Burial will be in Riverside.
