ORBEN E. SLATE DIES AT HOME NEAR CITY

Orben E. Slate died suddenly at his home, four miles northwest of Marshalltown at 4 p.m. Monday. He was up and around as usual during the day but had been in failing health for the past four months. He was born July 16, 1879 in Hardin county near Eldora. He married Nancy Eurom, Jan. 24, 1906, at Albion. They lived at Albion for three years, then moved to Novelty, Mo. In 1912 they returned to Albion. On Feb. 22, 1940, he married Mrs. Jessie Leach in this city. Surviving are the widow, two daughters, Mrs. Lilla Niederhauser and Mrs. Lena Isgrig, two brothers and one sister, Clint Slate of this city, Oran Slate of Bentonville, Ark., and Mrs. Lottie Houck of this city. One daughter, Lela Simmons, one son, Wesley, and one brother preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 3 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at the Estel funeral home in charge of Rev. P. G. Dennis. Burial will be in the Albion cemetery.
