MRS. HENRY A. DEBUTTS DIES NEAR HARTLAND

In failing health since Feb. 1, 1936, when she suffered a paralytic stroke, Mrs. Henry A. Debutts, 77, died at her home near Hartland Monday night at 11:30. On Dec. 20 she had injured her hip in a fall at her home from which she failed to rally. The body is at the Estel funeral home where private services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday with burial in Riverside. The family has requested that flowers be omitted. The funeral home will be open to friends from 5 o'clock Wednesday afternoon until Thursday noon. Mrs. DeButts was born Viola E. Geiger, May 18, 1865, at Amboy, Ill., the daughter of George B. and Mary Geiger. Her parents died when she was 6 years old and she and a brother were reared by their maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Willard Pond of Mount Morris, Ill. She attended the public schools there and later was a student of music at Mount Morris college. On Feb. 11, 1886 she was married to Henry A. DeButts in Mount Morris and they came to Iowa in 1889, settling in the farm home near Hartland where they have since resided. She is survived by her husband and three daughters, Mrs. A. E. Mitchem, south of Marshalltown, Mrs. F. A. Harding, near Hartland, and Lucille, at home. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Howard Mitchem, south of Marshalltown, Kenneth Mitchem, Grand Rapids, Mich., in training as a meteorologist in army air corps, Leonard Mitchem in camp at Denison, Leland Harding north of Marshalltown, Mrs. Kenneth Ulery of Corvallis, Ore., and four great grandchildren, Beverly Ann and Patricia Kay Harding, Kathryn and Maxine Mitchem. Her only brother, Alonzo Geiger of Syracuse, Kan., was killed in an automobile accident in Idaho in 1935 and a sister died in infancy. Mrs. DeButts was a Christadelphian in religious belief.
