PRIVATE RITES HELD FOR HENRY DEBUTTS, LONGTIME RESIDENT

Henry A. DeButts, 89, died at his home near Hartland where he had lived 59 years, Friday at 10:50 a.m. He had been seriously ill for three weeks. Henry Addison DeButts was born Nov. 1, 1858 on a farm near Lightsville, Ogle county, Ill., the son of Enos and Catherine Thomas DeButts. He attended the public school at Adeline, Ill., and later was a student at Cornell college and the Davenport Business college. Mr. DeButts taught in the schools of Ogle county for several years before coming to Iowa to operate his father's farm in Marietta township. On Feb. 11, 1886, he married Viola E. Geiger of Mount Morris, Ill. In March, 1889, they moved to the farm near Hartland. Mrs. DeButts died in December, 1942. They were the parents of three children, Mrs. A. E. Mitchem of near Marshalltown, Mrs. F. A. Harding of Hartland and Lucille at home. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Howard Mitchem and Mrs. K. E. Ulery of Marshalltown, Kenneth Mitchem of Lynbrook, N.Y., Leland Harding of Clemons and Leonard Mitchem of Lisbon, Portugal, en route to Portugese East Africa as a missionary. A sister, Mrs. Arabelle F. Bomberger of Harlan, also survives. Mr. DeButts was a Christadelphian in religious belief. Private funeral services were held at Estel funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Monday. Burial was in Riverside.
