SON OF PIONEERS DIES AT HOME NEAR ALBION

David A. Whaley, 74, died at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at his home, two miles southeast of Albion, where he had lived for the past 47 years. Mr. Whaley had been bedfast for the past six weeks and had been in failing health for a number of years. He was born Dec. 4, 1866, in a log cabin northwest of Ferguson, a son of William H. Whaley and Louisa Thompson Whaley, early residents of Marshall county, who came to this county from Ohio. He married Mrs. Nellie Whaley, his brother's widow, Sept. 22, 1888, in this city. After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Whaley continued to live near Ferguson until moving to the farm near Albion 47 years ago. Two children were born to this union, Mrs. C. A. Noah, who lives at Baxter, and Arthur Whaley, who died Feb. 8, 1941. Mrs. Whaley died May 30 , 1903. He was married to Miss Etta M. Dickkut, Nov. 24, 1909, near Albion. To this marriage, three children survive, Clarence D. Whaley of this city, John H. Whaley and Miss Ruth H. Whaley, both at home, two brothers, Edgar E. and John B. Whaley, both of this city, and five grandchildren. One son, Paul K. Whaley, died at the age of 4 years. The body is at the Estel funeral home where services will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon in charge of Rev. P. G. Dennis. Burial will be in the Timber Creek cemetery, six miles south of Marshalltown.
