WANDA FANTON, ANSON TEACHER, DIES FRIDAY

Miss Wanda Jane Fanton, former teacher in the Anson school here, died at her home, 1302 South Center street, at 5 o'clock Friday morning after an illness of two years. The cause of death was complications following two major operations at Rochester, Minn. Miss Fanton was born July 13, 1905, in Marshalltown, a daughter of George W. and Alta M. Fanton. She was graduated from Marshalltown high school in 1923, attended Iowa State Teachers college and later the University of Colorado at Boulder. She also received additional training at the University of Iowa. In 1926 she taught in the Dunbar consolidated school. Since that time she had taught in the Anson school here, the sixth grade and departmental work in the sixth, seventh and eighth grades of the Anson junior high school until ill health forced her retirement. Surviving are three sisters and one brother, Miss Phyllis Fanton, Mrs. E. C. Kuhleman and Mrs. L. L. Achtemeier, all of Marshalltown and Wendell Fanton of Dillon; three nieces and one nephew, Patty and Lorraine Kuhleman and Betty and Bobby Fanton, and one uncle, H. E. Foote of State Center. Her father died in this city, April 4, 1936, and her mother died here Jan. 16, 1939. She was a member of the Methodist church, Marshalltown Teachers association and Omega chapter of Theta Chi sorority. Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Estel funeral home in charge of Dr. F. F. Travis. Burial will be in Riverside.
