JOHN TIMMONS, COUNTY NATIVE IS DEAD AT 91

John A. Timmons, 91, died at 3:45 a.m. Sunday at his home in Marietta where he had spent his entire life with the exception of about 10 years. He had been in failing health for a month and was bedfast only five days. Timmons was born April 10, 1857 in Marietta, the son of Robert M. and Nancy Timmons. He was the first white boy born in that community after authorities began to keep record there. He attended Albion seminary and the State University of Iowa. On Jan. 31, 1882 he was married to Alice Benner in Albion. They lived in Manning, Zearing and State Center, returning to Marietta in 1889. He farmed until his retirement 30 years ago. Mrs. Timmons died Jan. 31, 1946. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. E. W. Hall, 404 West Main street, and Mrs. Ray Scott, 212 1/2 West State street, and two granddaughters, Mrs. Harry E. Anderson, also of Marshalltown and Mrs. Elizabeth Shewalter of San Diego, Calif., and four great grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Bonnie Akers, died in 1936. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Pursel funeral home in charge of Rev. C. W. Cleveland of Albion. Burial will be in the Marietta cemetery.
