ALLEN, COUNTY NATIVE DIES IN 78TH YEAR

Joseph H. Allen, 77, former Marshall county resident, and an Iowa state senator for 12 years died late Sunday in St. Mary's hospital at Detroit Lakes, Minn. Mr. Allen was born in Marshall county and received his early education in the rural schools of the county. He was graduated from Marshalltown high school in the 1880's. He was also a graduate of the State University of Iowa school of law. While at the university, Mr. Allen was a star football player and was a member of the first All-Western conference team. He was mayor of Des Moines from 1936 to 1938 and had served previously as state senator for three terms from Pocahontas, Humboldt and Buena Vista counties. He had been in farm management work at Detroit Lakes since he left Des Moines several years ago. Services will be at Pocahontas.
