LAST RITES HELD FOR MRS. CANDACE SMITH

Liscomb---(Special)---Dean William J. Lhamon, 87, of Columbia, Mo., delivered the memorial address at the funeral service held for his sister, Mrs. Candace Lhamon Smith, 85, at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Liscomb Church of Christ. Mrs. Smith died Dec. 23 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Spangler, at Venice, Calif., and the body was cremated. Rev. John Snapp assisted in the service and members of the church board, Rev. G. W. Biersborn, Lester McKibben, R. A. McKibben, G. E. Melick, C. H. Neff, Orely Brush and G. S. Clapsaddle, served as honorary pallbearers. The ashes were buried on the Lhamon family lot in the Liscomb cemetery. Rev. Mr. Lhamon and his sister were the only children of the late Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Lhamon, prominent early residents of Liscomb who came from Ohio in 1886 and bought the homestead of John W. Tripp, the founder of the town of Liscomb. Candace Lhamon was married to Rev. George T. Smith, a missionary who was home from Japan on a furlough, at Liscomb, Jan. 20, 1888. Shortly after the wedding Rev. and Mrs. Smith lefto for Japan, where Mrs. Smith assisted her husband as a missionary teacher. They were in Japan for five years, and three of Mrs. Smith's children were born in Japan, a girl who died in infancy, Reul, who has been for many years a professor in the University of Cincinnati; and Wilma, the wife of Dr. Louis Jaggard, who has been a missionary and teacher for many years in the Belgian Congo, Africa. Julian Smith, who was present at his mother's funeral, was born in Liscomb, and is now in charge of a valuable scientific library in Central college, Fayette, Mo. Two other children, Cloyd and Georgia, were born in Chicago when their father was a pastor there. Cloyd is now the editor of a scientific magazine in Washington, D.C. Georgia, who is Mrs. John Spangler, lives in Venice, Calif.
