FORMER RESIDENT OF CITY DIES IN WEST; BODY IS RETURNED

Melzer M. Dickson, 79, former Marshalltown resident and surveyor for the M. & St. L. railroad, died Sunday night at his home in Pasadena, Calif. He had been in poor health for three years. Born Nov. 8, 1868, at the Dickson homestead in north Taylor township, he was the son of John and Catherine Dickson. He grew to manhood here and attended the Albion seminary. He also was graduated from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor as a civil engineer. He married Florence Collins of Albion in July, 1900, and the couple lived at 803 West Main street, Marshalltown, until 1917 when they retired to California. While in Marshalltown he served as a surveyor for the railroad. Surviving besides the widow are two sons, Glenn, Pasadena, and John, Long Beach, Calif.; and a daughter, Catherine, Pasadena. Two grandchildren and one sister, Hattie Dickson, Pasadena, also survive. Two children died in infancy and one son, Gale, died four years ago. The body will be returned to Marshalltown for burial. Funeral arrangements will be announced.
