RALPH ARNEY DIES MONDAY; RITES THURSDAY

I. R. (Ralph) Arney, 68, 802 W. State St., life-long Marshall County resident died at the Evangelical Hospital Monday where he had been taken earlier in the day. About a year ago he had a stroke and had been in failing health since that time but had partially recovered. He suffered from a cerebral hemorrhage Sunday afternoon. Born on a farm northeast of Albion Jan. 28, 1887, he was the son of Wallace H. and Almyra Jane Fraley Arney. When he was young the family moved to a farm east of Albion where he attended the Albion Consolidated School and grew to manhood. HE ATTENDED Iowa State College in Ames and on Oct. 12, 1907 at Sac City he was united in marriage with Vivian L. Fraley. The couple established its home in the Prairie View community and later farmed east of Albion until moving to their present home two years ago. Mr. Arney was active in community affairs, serving as assessor for 16 years in Taylor township, was township committeeman of Taylor Township AAA. Mr. Arney was chairman of the PMA committee for several years and resigned due to ill health. MR. ARNEY was a member of the Albion Methodist Church, was past superintendent of the Sunday School and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, was Past Noble Grand of IOOF No. 313, and was a member of Damascus Lodge AF & AM, Madon Shrine No. 38, WSJ and BPOE No. 312. Surviving are his widow, a son and a daughter, John W. and Jane Arney Leonard, both of Marshalltown. Also surviving are four grandchildren Judy and Craig Leonard, John and Barbara Arney and a brother Kenneth G., Route 1. Services will be held from the Estel-Perrin Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m., Thursday in charge of the Rev. C. E. Luce of Waterloo. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.
