EMMA BAIE, FORMER COLLEGE TEACHER, DIES

State Center---(Special)---Miss Emma Baie, retired professor of education at Purdue university and previously a teacher at other colleges, died here Tuesday at the home of her sister, Mrs. F. C. Brown, after an illness of myelogenous leukemia. Miss Baie was born at State Center Nov. 11, 1879, a daughter of the late Frederick and Johanna Baie. She was graduated from State Center high school, Iowa State college and Columbia university and after teaching a number of years in rural and city schools of Iowa, became an instructor in North Texas State Teachers college in Denton. From there she went to the University of New Hampshire at Durham and then became professor of education at Purdue university, Lafayette, Ind. She retired a number of years ago. An active member of the Methodist church, Miss Baie was also a member of Chapter CF, P.E.O., of State Center and of the Pollyanna club here. Besides Mrs. Brown she is survived by two other sisters, Mrs. A. J. Dean of New York, N.Y., and Mrs. A. T. Copeland of Clyde, N.D., and three brothers Frank Baie of Ida Grove, Joseph of Milford and Fred of Oregon. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Brown home in charge of Rev. David Arnold. Burial will be in Hillside cemetery here.
