EDWARD CONDON DIES; FUNERAL TO BE TUESDAY

Edward L. Condon of LeGrand died Sunday morning at the Evangelical Deaconess hospital where he had been a patient for six weeks. He had been in failing health for two years. Mr. Condon was born May 18, 1866, in East Dubuque, the son of Edward and Mary Casey Condon. The family moved to Freeport, Ill., where he spent his youth, attending the public schools there. In 1885 he entered the employ of the Chicago and North Western railroad as a locomotive fireman and became an engineer in 1892. He married Mary A. Bratt at Quarry, Oct. 6, 1890, and the couple established their home in Boone. Before his retirement from the railroad in 1905, they lived in Quarry, Belle Plaine, Marshalltown and LeGrand. They spent several years on a farm in Marshall county. CAME HERE IN 1915 Mr. and Mrs. Condon moved to Marshalltown in 1915. Together with his nephew, K. J. Wilson, he built the filling station on the corner of State and Center street and operated this business for five years. He was active in the affairs of the Friends church and assisted in the construction of the present church here as well as the Friends church of LeGrand. As a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers he received his honorary badge for 40 years membership. Together with John Krughel of LeGrand he operated a merry-go-round at county fairs for many years. He participated in the organization of the LeGrand bank and for several years was a director of the Security Savings bank of Marshalltown. The collection of antiques and curios was his principal avocation and his agate collection was said to be one of the finest in the country. FUNERAL ON TUESDAY Mr. and Mrs. Condon moved to their present home in LeGrand in 1939. Preceding him in death were his parents, four brothers and four sisters. He is survived by his widow and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at the Friends church here at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in charge of Rev. Orval H. Cox, Rev. V. H. Cox of LeGrand Friends church and Rev. Lawrence Hibbs of Albion. Burial will be made on the family lot in Riverside cemetery. The body will be at the Estel funeral home until 11 o'clock Tuesday morning.
