Marshalltown, IA [Monday 6-4-1923] p. 9MRS. SARAH ARNEY DEAD
Mother of Wallace H. Arney Dies Very Suddenly
Altho she had been in poor health for several months, the end came very suddenly this morning at 3 o'clock to Mrs. Sarah A. Arney, mother of Wallace H. Arney, president of the Iowa Savings Bank. Mrs. Arney passed away at the home of Mrs. Mary Price, 811 West Nevada street, where Mrs. Arney has been during her last illness that Mrs. Price might care for her. The cause of death was heart failure and dropsy. Mrs. Arney was 83 years of age. Mrs. Arney was one of the real pioneers of this county, having come here in June, 1855, with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Beeson. She was widely known by the older people of the county, and especially those who lived in the earlier days in the Albion neighborhood. Mrs. Arney was one of thirteen children, and was born in Columbiana county, Ohio, Nov. 15, 1839. As a girl of 15 when her parents settled in the then far west, Mrs. Arney had lived in this county long enough to witness its transformation from a prairie wilderness to its present state of high development. In 1860 Miss Beeson became the wife of Ira R. Arney, a member of another of the pioneer families of Iowa township, and went to live on a farm two and one-half miles northeast of Albion. Mr. and Mrs. Arney continued to live there until March 4, 1885, when the moved to Lake City. Her Mr. Arney died about sixteen years ago, and two years later his widow returned here to make her home. Of Mrs. Arney's five sons two died in infancy. In addition to her son Wallace the other sons are Charles E. Arney, of Spokane, Wash., and Harry L. Arney of Alcester, S.D. There also survive two brothers and two sisters in the persons of Gen. B. A. Beeson, of Des Moines, W. B. Beeson of this city, Mrs. Mary Dickson, of Boise, Idaho, and Mrs. W. L. Lybarger, of Osage. General Beeson is the oldest one of his father's thirteen children and Mrs. Lybarger the youngest. Mrs. Arney was a member of Central Church of Christ of this city. Funeral services will be held probably either Wednesday or Thursday, depending upon the ability of Charles E. Arney to reach this city. The Spokane son has been coming to the city regularly every few months for some time, in order to visit his mother and was here only recently.
