Old Resident Dies of Complications Following Fall
W. B. Beeson, for sixty-nine years a resident of the county and city, and a veteran of the civil war, died at his home, 804 West Boone street at 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon of complications brought on by falling in the basement of the house ten days ago. For a time Mr. Beeson improved, but there were present a uremic condition and complications of age that were regarded as possibly dangerous. These developed rapidly within twenty-four hours before his death. Mr. Beeson was born near New Lisbon, O., Aug. 12, 1841 and settled in northern Marshall county in 1854 where he was living when the civil war broke out. He enlisted in Company I, Eighth Iowa cavalry, under Colonel Shorts and was captured July 30, 1864, and served in Andersonville prison four months. Returning from the army, he again took up his residence in the county and was united in marriage with Miss Hannah C. Binford, of Salem, O., Oct. 4, 1866. They lived on a farm two and one-half miles north of the city until 1890, when they came to Marshalltown. Mrs. Beeson died here Oct. 29, 1909. Mr. Beeson took for his second wife Mrs. Ada M. Pickard, who survives him. In addition to the widow, six sons and daughters survive him. They are Dr. Orin Beeson, Beatrice Neb.; Mrs. A. B. Warner and Miss Martha Beeson, Minneapolis; Dr. J. B. Beeson, Anchorage, Alaska; S. A. Beeson, St. Louis, and Mrs. G. F. Wingert, Cedar Rapids. Mr. Beeson was one of a family of thirteen, of whom one brother, B. A. Beeson, Des Moines, and two sisters, Mrs. J. W. Dickson, Boise, Idaho, and Mrs. W. I. Lybarger, Osage, are living. The funeral will be held at the residence at 2:30 Saturday afternoon. Burial will be in Riverside.
