CAPT. DON BEESON, FORMER RESIDENT, DIES IN CALIFORNIA

Captain Donald Beeson, 46, formerly of Marshalltown, died suddenly of a heart attack Sunday afternoon at Oceandale, Calif., according to word received by his aunt, Mrs. H. H. Wilcox, 305 Jerome street. Services will be held in San Diego, Calif., Thursday. He was born in Albion, the son of George and Nettie Beeson. His parents and a brother are dead. Surviving is the widow, the former Ida Norman Uhlig whom Beeson married in 1942. Captain Beeson was graduated from the Marshalltown high school where he was prominent in athletics. He attended Coe college at Cedar Rapids one year. He enlisted in the marines in 1928 and in 1937 as a sergeant in company F, Second battalion, Fourth U. S. marines, he was sent to Shanghai, China, where was was stationed for some time. He served also as assistant athletic director and baseball coach at the marine base in San Diego, Calif., and was later transferred to Bremerton, Wash. He served as a gunner or marine warrant officer, the highest non-commmissioned rank for many years. He was appointed as a first lieutenant in 1942 and served overseas during World War II. He was promoted to captain in 1944. He last visited in Marshalltown about three years ago.
