FUNERAL FRIDAY FOR ARTHUR WHEALEN, 90, MARIETTA PIONEER

Arthur Haddock Whealen, a pioneer resident of Marietta Township, died at 4:45 a.m. Wednesday at Evangelical Hospital. Tuesday was his 90th birthday anniversary. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at First Friends Church, in charge of the Rev. Frank L. Davies. Friends may call at Pursel Funeral Home. Burial will be in Marietta Cemetery. Mr. Whealen was born Jan. 19, 1864, the son of Jeremiah and Sarah A. Whealen on a Marietta Township farm, now occupied by Will Groff. In 1870 the family moved to a farm a mile south of the original farm. He was married to Jeanette Turner Oct. 25, 1899. They farmed near Rockwell City for a year and then returned to the parental farm, where Mr. Whealen lived until 1950, when he moved to 308 1/2 S. 5th St. The last surviving member of a family of eight children, Mr. Whealen was preceded in death by his wife and two sons, Ralph and Clarence. Surviving are eight nieces and nephews. He was a member of the Hartland Friends Church, until he moved to Marshalltown, where he was affiliated with First Friends Church.
