LESLIE WHITE, 76, PIONEER FARMER OF MELBOURNE, DIES

Leslie White, 76, a pioneer farmer of Marshall county, died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Thomas Mercy hospital here after a lingering illness. Mr. White was born in Bureau county, Illinois, April 11, 1869, and came to Marshall county with his parents when he was 7 years old. He was married in 1890 to Syrena Webster of Rhodes and they moved to a farm where they lived until a few years ago, when they moved to Melbourne, where they had since made their home. Mr. and Mrs. White celebrated their golden wedding Sept. 8, 1940. He his survived by his widow, a son, Harry White of Rhodes; a daughter, Mrs. Robert Andrews of Melbourne; a sister, Mrs. Emma Manwarring, Marshalltown; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. A prayer service will be held at the home at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and the funeral will be at the Melbourne Methodist church at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Eden cemetery at Rhodes.
