Mrs. Roe Hiatt, 81, pioneer Marshall county resident, died at her home five miles north of Clemons at 7 p.m. Tuesday. While she had been in ill health for the last two years, her death of pneumonia was unexpected. Mrs. Hiatt was born Mary Belle Tucker, June 22, 1868 in the Minerva neighborhood, the daughter of Thompson and Eunice McGrew Tucker. MARRIED IN 1890 She grew up in that neighborhood and was married there to Roe Hiatt, Feb. 12, 1890. They had lived their entire married life in Marshall county with the exception of two years spent in Kossuth county, and then moved to the present farm home 23 years ago. Mr. Hiatt died Oct. 28, 1949. She was a member of the Hartland community church, the Clemons Ladies Aid society and had been a member of the Liberty missionary society. SURVIVORS ARE LISTED Surviving are four sons and four daughters. Harold and Kathryn Hiatt at home. Raymond and Ethel Hiatt of Marshalltown. Mrs. Frank Gustafson of route 3. Carl Hiatt of State Center, Mrs. Ben Smith of Conrad and Clarence Hiatt of Pasco, Wash. Also surviving are a brother and a sister, Mahlon Tucker of Panora, Mrs. George Nichols of Albion, three grandchldren and one great grandchild. RITES DUE SATURDAY Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Clemons Christian church, preceded by a prayer service at the family home. Rev. Lester T. Proctor will be in charge. Burial will be in the Marietta cemeter. Friends may call at the Estel funeral home until noon Friday at which time the body will be taken to the home.
