Liscomb---(Special)---Emmet P. Smith, 71, former mayor of Liscomb and retired farmer, died at 2:45 a.m Saturday at his home here following a three months' illness. The son of Simon B. and Mary Ulery Smith, he was born on a farm in southern Grundy county July 9, 1877. He attended rural schools at Felix No. 3 and in Liscomb. He was married to Marie Scott May 6, 1912. Mr. Smith was a farmer and stockman on a large scale until his retirement three years ago. He moved to Liscomb at that time. He served one term as Liscomb mayer and was a member of the town council at the time of his death. He was a member of the Liscomb Christian church and was active in the I.O.O.F. lodge, being on the building committee for the new hall. Mr. and Mrs. Smith had no children, but they reared a nephew, Don McCoy, who lives on a farm near Union. Besides the widow and nephew, he leaves a sister, Mrs. Mertie Culp of Sioux City. The body is at the Biersborn funeral home at Union and it will be taken to the Liscomb Christian church Monday morning. Services will be held at the church at 2 p.m. Monday, with burial in the Liscomb cemetery.
