MISS FERGUSON, COUNTY PIONEER, DIES AT 91

Mary Ferguson, 91, 8 N. Ninth st., died at Evangelical Deaconess hospital at 7:10 p.m. Wednesday where she had been a patient since Jan. 1. Death was attributed to complications following a broken hip. She was born Oct. 27, 1860 in a log cabin in Marion township, the daughter of Nimrod and Jane Laughlin Ferguson early pioneers of Marshall county. SHE RECEIVED her education in the schools of that community and later attended the Albion seminary and the LeGrand Friends academy. She made her home with her brother near LeGrand until moving to Marshalltown in 1920. Since 1930 she had made her home with her niece, Mrs. C. E. Twedt. In 1928 Miss Ferguson was awarded a plaque for having lived in Marshall county for 88 years. SHE WAS A member of the First Presbyterian church. Preceding her in death were a brother, David N., a sister, Martha A., and nephew, David Nimrod, Jr. Surviving are two nieces, Mrs. Max M. Mills and Mrs. C. I. Twedt and six grand nieces and nephews, Mrs. Mariel Twedt Oldham of Weisgan, Germany, Mrs. Merijane Ferguson Vlaydka, on Guam, Lawrence Mills of Pella, Roger Twedt of Alpine, Calif., and Dr. David Twedt and Max Milo Mills, both of Marshalltown. TEN GREAT grand nieces and nephews also survive. Services will be at the First Presbyterian church at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in charge of the pastor, the Rev. C. Wayne Overholser. Burial will be in the Rock Creek cemetery near Garwin. Friends may call at the Estel funeral home until 10 a.m. Saturday.
