MRS. ETTA FICKES DIES AT HOSPITAL, RITES WEDNESDAY

Mrs. Etta Fickes, 83, 606 N. First Ave., died at Evangelical Hospital Sunday night where she had been a patient since Jan. 8. She was born Nov. 13, 1869 at Reinbeck, the daughter of Michael and Roseanne Colb Bence. When she was a year old the family moved to Waterloo and later to Belle Plaine where she grew to womanhood and received her education. AFTER A SHORT time in Iowa City she came to Marshalltown where she had resided since 1912. July 7, 1885 she was married to Harry W. Fickes who preceded her in death in 1930. Also preceding her in death were four daughters and two sons. One son, William Theodore, was killed in action in the Pacific theater during World War II. Mrs. Fickes was a member of the Christian Church and a Gold Star mother. SURVIVING ARE three daughters, Mrs. Charlie E. Hunter, Belle Plaine, Mrs. Fred Moore of Burlington, and Mrs. Fred Diehn of this city. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, a brother, Emanuel Bence and a sister, Mrs. Mary Fisher, both of Belle Plaine. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Estel Funeral Home in charge of the Rev. Orval E. Walker. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
