FORMER MARSHALLTOWN BOY, SHOT BY EX-CONVICT, DIES

BODY BROUGHT HERE; FUNERAL HELD TODAY

Domestic Tragedy Ends in Death of Harry Flippings -- Shot by Lonnie Brooks. Alleged Home-Wrecker -- Only Son of Mr. and Mrs.

Harry A. Flippings, formerly of this city, shot at Cedar Rapids Thursday morning by Lonnie Brooks, an ex-convict, died at 6 o'clock Saturday evening at Mercy hospital, Cedar Rapids. Both the victim of the shooting and the murdered were colored. The shooting was the culmination of a domestic tragedy, in which Brooks is said to have attempted to win the affections of Mrs. Flippings.

The body of Flippings was brought here Sunday and the funeral was held from the Second Baptist church at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon, Rev. Mr. Smith conducting the services. The pallbearers were from the colored Masonic lodge, of which Flipping was a member, and the lodge had charge of the services at the grave.

Was Native of Marshalltown

Harry A. Flippings was born in this city, Jan. 18, 1894, the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Henry Flippings, and lived here practically all his life. He is survived by his parents and wife, formerly Miss Edna Wyatt, of Cedar Rapids. Flippings was last employed here by the Rude Auto Company, but moved to Cedar Rapids a few months ago, taking a position with the starch works.

Flippings was shot throught the mouth by Brooks, the ball passing thru the bone at the base of the neck. Altho his condition was regarded as critical, the attending physician believed there was hope of his recovery. His condition Saturday morning was reported as favorable.
