R. J. Kinzer, a Marshall County native, who was widely known in Hereford cattle breeding circles, died Saturday morning at Sarasota, Fla., where he had lived the last four years. According to his sister, Mrs. Earl Herron, Union, the body will arrive at the Biersborn Funeral Home in Union Wednesday. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Bangor Cemetery, with Masonic honors. The Rev. Ben H. Harris will officiate. ROLAND JACOB Kinzer was one of seven children of Jacob H. and Hannah Howard Kinzer, pioneer settlers in Marshall County. He was born in Liberty Township in 1876. The family moved to a farm a half mile east of Bangor in the early '80s. The farm is still the family home. He attended Bangor rural school and the Friends Academy, New Providence, before enrolling at Iowa State College, from which he was graduated with a degree in animal husbandry. AFTER GRADUATING he went to Kansas State College, Manhatten, Kan., where he originated the department of animal husbandry. He was on the staff there from 1903 to 1911. In recognition of his service to Kansas State College the Block and Bridle Club at the college hung his picture in the portrait gallery of East Waters Hall there in 1930. MR KINZER was elected secretary of the American Hereford Association Oct. 13, 1910, and assumed his duties Jan. 1, 1911. He served as secretary to the organization for 35 years and on retirement served as chairman of the board of directors. In 1948 he was honored at the American Royal Livestock and Horse Show at Kansas City by the Herford Association, which named part of the show "R. J. Herford Royal." He had worked at the Royal since 1911 and had worked at the show longer than any other official. He was a member of the Royal's board of directors. SURVIVING ARE his widow, a son, Howard of Charleston, S.C., and two grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Earl Herron, Union; Miss Marjorie Kinzer, Sarasota, Fla., and Mrs. Addie Mooney, Wenatchee, Wash., and a brother, Horace Kinzer, Loveland, Col. Preceding him in death were two brothers, Henry and J. C. (Cal) Kinzer.
