HERBERT ANDREWS, VETERAN OF TWO WARS, DIES AT 59

Herbert Andrews, 59, 1511 W. State St., died at the Mercy Hospital Friday morning where he had been a patient since Thursday afternoon. Death was attributed to a heart condition. Born near Clemons June 12, 1896, he was the son of T. C. and Alice Atkinson Andrews. He received his education in the rural schools of that area and grew to manhood there. ON FEB. 6, 1924, he was married to Hollis Cox and the couple resided in Clemons until 12 years ago when they moved to Marshalltown. For the last 10 years he has been employed by the Lennox Furnace Co., in the shipping department. Mr. Andrews entered the Navy during World War I and also served two and a half years with the Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Frank Lewis Glick post No. 46, was Vice President of the United Furnace workers Union and attended Bivens Grove Church. SURVIVING ARE his widow and a daughter, Mrs. Tony Giarratano of Marshalltown. Also surviving are three grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Clinton Hall of Clemons. Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers. Arrangements are pending at the Estel-Perrin Funeral Home waiting word from relatives in California.
