CHARLES GRIER DIES FOLLOWING HEART SEIZURE

Charles L. Grier, 44, 206 N. 7th St., auditor for the McGregor Furniture Stores of Iowa, died at his home Saturday evening. He had been working as usual and his death of a heart attack was unexpected. He was born Jan. 4, 1911, in Deep River, the son of Park and Muriel Funk Grier. The family moved to Van Cleve where he graduated from Van Cleve High School in 1928. He later attended the Central Iowa Business College and, on completion of his training, was employed by the Central Iowa District of the Iowa Electric Light & Power Co., where he worked from 1929 till 1944. He joined the McGregor Furniture firm in 1944. He served in the army during World War II, being stationed in Hawaii until discharged in 1945. He returned to McGregors and has served as auditor since that time. Mr. Grier was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, B.P.O.E. No. 312, and Frank Lewis Glick American Legion Post No. 46. Preceding him in death was his father in December. April 16, 1940 he was married at Cedar Rapids to Martha Womochil of Fairfax who survives along with three children, Ronnie, 14, Bernie, 11, and Carmen, 6. Also surviving are his mother Mrs. Muriel Grier of Deep River, a brother and a sister, Cecil Grier and Mrs. Leanora Hilleman, both of Strafford, Mo. Requiem mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Tuesday in charge of Msgr. B. H. Skahill. Burial will be in Catholic Riverside. The rosary will be recited at the Estel-Perrin Funeral Home at 8 p.m. Monday.
