Joseph P. Harding, 103, long time resident of Marshall County, died at 9:45 p.m. Friday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. A. Freiboth at Dillon, where he had made his home for 10 months. Mr. Harding was born Dec. 17, 1851 near New Castle, Pa., the eldest of seven children of Mr. and Mrs. Elphias Harding. In 1861 the family came to Iowa and settled near Bear Grove near LaMoille, but when the father enlisted in the Civil War the mother and the children moved into Marietta where they lived until the close of the war. They later moved to a farm in the Minerva community. HE WAS MARRIED to Adelia Wright of Albion and they farmed in the County until 1882 when they moved to South Dakota. Mrs. Harding died in 1896 and in 1898 he returned to Iowa and lived for a time near Baxter before locating on a farm near Rhodes. For a time he made his home with a daughter, Mrs. Blanche Whittemore at Liscomb. SURVIVING ARE 10 children, Claude of Detroit, Mich., Ray, Clayton and Mrs. I. J. Jacobson of Casper, Wyo.; Mrs. Delia Grant of Keeline, Wyo.; Josephine of Omaha, Neb., Edith of Pittsburg, Pa., Mrs. Freiboth of Dillon and Merle and Mrs. Blanche Whittemore of Liscomb. There are 17 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and a number of great great grandchildren. Mrs. Lizzie J. Freetly of Indianapolis, Ind., a sister, also survives. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Pursel-Davis Funeral Home and burial will be in the Albion Cemetery.
